• Annual pay as you go (PAYG) instalment notice (Form N) – due date for payment. Lodgement is only required if you vary the instalment amount or use the rate method to calculate the instalment. 

• September 2017 monthly activity statements - final date for lodgement and payment.

The Australian Taxation Office (ATO) has confirmed its view that the small business tax offset can only be applied to income derived by an individual through a partnership or trust if an individual receives income directly from the partnership or trust that carries on the business and is classified as a small business entity (SBE).

In the healthcare services industry, it is now common for some practitioners (such as a doctor, dentist, physical therapist, radiologist or pharmacist) to operate from healthcare centres run by third parties. This frequently occurs without any stated partnership or employment relationship between the third party and the practitioner.

Ride-sourcing is an ongoing arrangement where:

• you (a driver) make a car available for public hire for passengers;
• a passenger uses a website or app provided by a third party (facilitator) to request a ride, for example Uber, GoCatch and others; and
• you use the car to transport the passenger for payment (a fare).
